Hawker Hurricane

Hawker Hurricane

The Hurricane served as night fighter, fighter-bomber and even ground-attack-aircraft using rockets. The first Hurricane left assembly lines in October 1937, the production continued without interruption from 1936 till the end of 1944 and totaled 14 233 units. The Hurricane was a monoplane with low wings, retractable train, entirely metallic structure and sheet metal coating. The Hurricane was the first monoplane fighter of the RAF to be armed with eight machine guns and to pass the 480 km/h. The name of the Hurricane is closely bound to the battle of Britain. The Spitfire had the task of facing the German fighters whereas the Hurricane opposed the massive formations of bombers. Several versions were developed with increases in the number of machine guns, installation of supplementary reservoirs of fuel, etc. Gradually it took the shape of a fighter-bomber / ground attack aircraft. It was the first one-seater plane to carry rockets.
